Our client, a highly successful specialty contractor experiencing exponential growth, is actively recruiting for a very sharp, skilled and hands-on Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller (client is open to both levels), to lead financial operations. 

 This company, located in Garner, NC, is an award-winning firm that provides specialized services to both residential and commercial construction, and has gone through major expansion.  While this is a very exciting time, it is essential that accounting practices are adapted and enhanced to meet the needs of the future.  This Accounting Manager will be instrumental in that effort.

 Key Things to Note:

  • Position will involve overseeing all aspects of financial operations including accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, financial reporting, cash management, as well as job costing.  Strong background in construction operations will be important.
  • This Manager will supervise a team of ~ 6, including accounting clerks and junior accountants (some entry level). Seek skilled supervisor who enjoys a staff development role.
  • The company uses SAGE and proficiency is highly preferred. Advanced Excel is expected.
  • The company is modifying its accounting practices to accommodate its growth.  Seek strategic, process improvement-oriented candidate who thrives in a building/growing setting.
  • Eventually, this Manager will have the opportunity to take on operational business functions including HR, Insurance, etc.  Seek entrepreneurial candidate interested in learning about many aspects of the business.
  • This position is on-site at the company’s Garner location.

Selected Duties:

  • Oversee accounting staff and ensure that all financial functions of the company are managed efficiently, accurately, timely and in compliance with regulations and company policies
  • Oversee the company's transaction processing systems
  • Manage job costing and ensure that expenditures are properly assigned to projects
  • Monitor cash flow and cash forecasts
  • Assist managers in identifying opportunities to improve cash flow (inventory management, vendor terms, etc.)
  • Assist with financial statement preparation
  • Maintain the fixed asset tracking system and subsequent schedules
  • Implement operational best practices within areas of responsibility; Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Contribute to annual audit; Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies

Targeted candidate will offer a Bachelor’s in Accounting and 6+ years of increasingly responsible relevant positions, including 3+ in a supervisory role.  CPA is preferred.  Construction experience is required.

Other priorities include:

  • Broad based accounting and finance skills including job cost accounting, cash management, financial and resource planning, and tax compliance
  • Advanced Excel; SAP Crystal Reports and Liberty Reports a plus
