Our client is an NC-based biotech that is developing and manufacturing a highly-anticipated portfolio of human acellular vessels to target multiple vascular markets including trauma, hemodialysis, peripheral arterial disease, coronary artery bypass grafting and others.

This is industry-changing technology that will have significant impact on multiple markets as well as patients with these conditions. This is exciting and important work and finding the right candidate to lead Global Value and Market Access is a top priority at this time.  Compensation will be generous.

Key Things to Note:

  • This Director will drive all aspects of Global Value and Market Access.  Broad and deep understanding of domestic and global best practices (including trends and regulations) related to pricing, reimbursement, payment systems, access programs, sites of services, etc. will be critical.
  • These are first-to-market implantable products that are regulated as biologics. Outstanding track record of developing value positioning and messaging for innovative, novel products will be important.  Strong scientific credentials will be essential.
  • This is a publicly-held, well-funded company that, in many ways, operates as a start-up.  Right candidate will be an insightful and savvy strategist who is also a hands-on, get-things-done tactician.  Ability to thrive without a roadmap and work through ambiguity will be key.
  • This Director will be a Launch Leader. Significant experience setting and executing launch strategy is required.
  • Client is open to remote candidates who are prepared to travel to the RTP, NC area regularly.  Additional travel to clients and prospects is also expected. Relo option is also available.

The focus of the role will be to achieve optimal reimbursement for new products through demonstration of value to payers, physicians and health systems globally. This value generation will be achieved through the development and execution of pricing and market access strategies that align with brand and corporate strategies and ensure these strategies are implemented globally.  

Selected Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and support development and refinement of global market access strategy from product development through launch and lifecycle management inclusive of pricing, reimbursement, value proposition, value messaging and payor strategies for all indications.
  • Translate global market access strategy to tactical plans that optimize pricing and reimbursement in all relevant geographies. Accountable for budget planning and cross-functional integration with medical and brand plans.
  • Monitor global payor policy trends and developments to proactively identify needs and actions to support the value proposition of the product portfolio.
  • Develop global pricing strategies and ongoing assessment and adaptation to ensure an optimal balance of revenue, volume, margin and access across geographies. 
  • Direct input to payer national coverage policy and innovative reimbursement programs by supplying and framing clinical and health economic data and through coalition advocacy.
  • Ensure integration of market access and payer perspectives into product development plans, in close collaboration with clinical, medical, HEOR and commercial colleagues.

Targeted candidate will offer BS/MS in scientific field and 8+ years of increasingly responsible roles in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industries including significant experience in global market access, pricing, reimbursement and value assessment.  Some experience in first/early-to-market products as well as implantables (or other operating room products) is highly preferred.

Other priorities include:

  • Deep knowledge of US health care policy and payment systems, including Medicare and commercial payors
  • Substantial experience planning, implementing and managing launch strategies
  • Global Market Access experience including strategy development and tactical execution within US, EU, ROW
  • Knowledgeable about the market access pathways and trends in HTA, pricing, and payer innovative access programs (e.g. value-based payments and risk sharing models)
  • Track record of translating product advantages in the context of market requirements into impactful value stories and successful negotiations with payers and health systems in securing patient access
  • Strong strategic thinking skills and keen business acumen
  • Excellent communication skills including positive and strong negotiation / influencing skills as well as the ability to convincingly communicate complex information to non-technical audiences
