Our client, an early stage RTP-based company that is developing cutting edge treatments for a variety of human diseases, has an immediate need for a very organized, detail-oriented and experienced Lab Manager to step in and manage the lab while the current manager is out on leave. 

This is a contract opportunity expected to last through first quarter of 2022.  Company will pay excellent wage to attract and retain an excellent candidate.

This Lab Manager will be responsible for lab operations including lab supply, inventory, procurement, equipment maintenance and safety. The selected candidate will be a point of contact for facility issues and improvements related to the labs. Practical knowledge of Biosafety Level 2 will be important. Understanding of RNase-free conditions would be plus.

This is cell culture work and related experience will be essential. 

Daily duties will include:

  • Manages the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment in collaboration with delegated equipment captains, including daily upkeep and maintenance contracts, routine quality control and troubleshooting, and scheduling of preventative maintenance.
  • Manages equipment alarm systems, including delegation of alerts, restoration, resets, and routine checks; Ensures that an on-call system is in effect for alarm response
  • Develops optimal, cost-effective solutions for use of lab reagents and operation of equipment.
  • Manages primary lab related procurement (including negotiation), shipping, and receiving in collaboration with the finance department. Collaborates with Individual scientists on their direct purchases.
  • Manages inventory management control programs (Kanban, stock supplies).
  • Co-lead safety committee to ensure safe and efficient laboratory operations.
  • Manages biohazard waste and works with Lead Safety Officer and Chemical Safety Officer to coordinate proper disposal of items.
  • Routinely inspects lab safety equipment. 
  • Liaison with building facilities manager.
  • Coordinates with vendors and landlord for lab maintenance, both routine and unexpected; maintains/prepares for annual inspections and certifications for the facility.
  • Assists ­­­­­­COO with oversight of property management including upkeep of the lab space in facility

Selected candidate will offer a Bachelor’s Degree in a life science discipline, as well as 4+ years of relevant lab experience, with at least 1 year of lab management experience.

Other priorities include:

  • Lab maintenance and procurement/shipping/receiving of biological materials and supplies
  • Experience working with cell culture and in Biosafety Level 2 conditions  
  • Experience working under RNase free conditions is a plus
  • Experience working with compound management is a plus
  • Strong  interpersonal and collaboration skills will be needed
