Our client, an NC-based organization that engages cancer researchers from industry, academia and government to collaborate and achieve breakthrough research in the oncology field, has an immediate need a highly skilled and knowledgeable Program Leader, with particular expertise in driving healthcare/scientific research programs, to join its team.

This is a critical role and compensation will be generous.

Key Things to Note:

  • The organization, which is wholly committed to the advancement of cancer research, hosts a data-sharing platform that makes cancer research data (both clinical and RWD) available to researchers around the world.
  • Organizations engage this team on a wide range of cancer research initiatives.  Examples include capturing/redefining adverse events, data-sharing for rare/pediatric cancers, reevaluating standard of care and many others.  This Program Leader will lead one or more of these programs.
  • The initiatives are complex, multi-faceted, and high impact. They involve coordinating the efforts of a wide range of stakeholders, voluminous data and intense timelines.  Program Leaders must have a strong scientific core (PhD expected), outstanding project management skills and highly effective communication skills.
  • Many programs include significant involvement with federal agencies (NIH, FDA, DOD, etc.).  Related experience would be valuable.
  • This is a hands-on role.  Right candidate will be both a persuasive strategist and a skilled tactician.
  • This position can be remote but will require semi-regular visits to the company’s SAS-based offices in NC.  East Coast /Central candidates preferred.

Selected Duties:

  • Develop and manage all aspects of program management from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks, and issues.
  • Formation of Task Forces of content experts from industry, academia, and regulatory agencies to provide scientific advice for the program.
  • In collaboration with the Task Force, create and maintain program and project deliverables such as work plans, timelines, milestone tracking reports, and status reports.
  • Act as champion for assigned programs.  Energize constituents, monitor activity, troubleshoot problems, maintain effective communication and ensure all stakeholders stay on track and committed to the goals.
  • Monitor, track, and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, and critical path deliverables.
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues (technical, scientific/medical, other) by engaging the Task Force, experts and other constituents. Facilitate consensus.
  • Maintain discipline on execution of all deliverables and follow-up actions through tracking tools, follow-up meetings, and other communication channels.
  • Develop periodic reports for the Task Force, Management, and Funding agencies to summarize the value proposition, key objectives, and accomplishments.

Targeted candidate will offer a PhD in scientific or data science discipline and 4+ years of Program Management work, ideally in research/healthcare.  PMP certification and oncology bkgd preferred.

Other priorities include:

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead disparate groups
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Proactive, smart and deadline-driven organizational skills
  • Keen problem-solving, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with big data analytics
  • Strong publications and/or presentations bkgd
  • Track record of leadership, achievement and impact

Finally, this is an empowered, dynamic, mission-driven setting.  Seek smart, self-directed and extremely competent professional who can switch gears readily, stay goal-focused despite distraction and/or roadblocks and, critically, gain the respect and cooperation of all partners in order to achieve shared success.

This is an immediate need.  Please forward resume for prompt consideration.
