Our client, an NC-based organization that engages cancer researchers from industry, academia and government to collaborate and achieve breakthrough research and, ultimately, treatments to improve the lives of cancer patients, is actively recruiting for a top-notch Program Manager to drive multiple research initiatives.

These initiatives are complex, multi-faceted, and high impact.  They involve coordinating the efforts of a wide range of stakeholders, voluminous data and intense timelines.  Program Managers must have a strong scientific core, outstanding organizational skills and highly effective communication skills.

This is an important role and compensation will be generous. Please reach out if you would like more information.

Key Things to Note:

  • This position can be remote but will require semi-regular visits to the company’s SAS-based offices in NC.
  • The Research Programs vary greatly.  Examples might include capturing/defining adverse events, reevaluating standard of care, data-sharing for rare/pediatric cancers, and many others. Right candidates will bring the scientific bkgd to get up to speed quickly.  Oncology bkgd is a plus but not required.  PhD in relevant science is also desirable.
  • Many of the programs will be in start-up mode.  Right candidate will work effectively and strategically without a blueprint.
  • This organization hosts a data sharing platform that the research programs use to exploit big data and big data analytics. Familiarity with data analytics (Clinical, Real World Data) will be important.
  • This is a hands-on role.  Right candidate will be both a persuasive strategist and a skilled tactician.

This Program Manager will be responsible for full project life cycle ownership for one major or several minor initiatives.

Selected Duties:

  • Develop and manage all aspects of program management from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks, and issues.
  • Formation of Task Forces of content experts from industry, academia, and regulatory agencies to provide scientific advice for the program.
  • In collaboration with the Task Force, create and maintain program and project deliverables such as work plans, timelines, milestone tracking reports, and status reports.
  • Monitor, track, and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, and critical path deliverables.
  • Facilitate the resolution of issues (technical, scientific/medical, other) by engaging the Task Force, experts and other constituents. Facilitate consensus.
  • Maintain discipline on execution of all deliverables and follow-up actions through tracking tools, follow-up meetings, and other communication channels.
  • Develop periodic reports for the Task Force, Management, and Funding agencies to summarize the value proposition, key objectives, and accomplishments.

Targeted candidate will offer an advanced scientific or data science degree and 4+ years of Program Management work, ideally in research.  PMP, PhD in scientific discipline and oncology research experience all preferred.

Other priorities include:

  • Experience working with big data analytics
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Proactive, smart and deadline-driven organizational skills
  • Current and continually-advancing technical skills
  • Keen problem-solving, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
  • Track record of leadership, achievement and impact

Finally, this is an empowered, dynamic, mission-driven setting.  Seek smart, insightful, self-directed and extremely competent professional who can switch gears readily, stay goal-focused despite distraction and/or roadblocks and, critically, gain the respect and cooperation of all partners in order to achieve shared success.
