Senior Project Engineer (Water Treatment/Industrial Plants) – NC Firm (Will Relo)
Our client, a highly respected and successful engineering and construction firm with locations throughout the US, is actively recruiting for a very sharp and driven candidate to assume Project Engineer role on its Raleigh, NC team.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join one of the fastest growing firms in the country. They run large industrial projects and, in NC, those projects focus on water treatment and waste water plants. This Project Engineer will be assigned to multiple projects in this space. Some bkgd in water treatment (or similar operations) will be important.
Key Things to Note:
- This Project Engineer will work out of the Raleigh, NC office but will be assigned to projects throughout the Southeast. Significant travel will be involved. Per diems/travel expenses are paid. Relo support is available.
- Position will involve supporting the Project Managers and Superintendents in the oversight and management of assigned projects. Outstanding organizational skills will be important.
- Duties are varied and will include change order management, subcontractor communication, document control, budget management, procurement, etc., etc. Seek highly versatile candidate whose engineering core is complemented by strong business management skills.
- This a highly dynamic role. Projects are large and complex and constantly changing. Seek think-on-your-feet candidate who is solutions-driven and keeps a level head despite pace and disruption.

This Senior Project Engineer will be the on-site presence and a primary liaison with field personnel and subcontractors.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- communicating work responsibilities to subcontractors and supervising for conformance
- establishing, reviewing, and acting upon changes in schedules, costs, quality of work
- assisting in purchasing and estimating
Selected Duties:
- Oversee change order management
- Assist with project estimating and prequalification processes
- Manage document control processes (RFI’s, Submittals, Change Orders etc.).
- Assist in site planning and material management
- Procure materials
- Conduct onsite quality control checks
- Implement onsite safety plan
- Develop project budget
- Process pay applications and approve invoices
- Update schedule and run weekly labor reports
Targeted candidate will offer a BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar related field as well as 2+ years in a Project Engineering or Construction Management role. Experience with Water Treatment Plants (or similar) is expected and important.
Other priorities include:
- Fluency with current technology (BIM, 3D Modelling, Pipe Detailing, etc.).
- Knowledge of plans and specifications
- Knowledge of equipment and instruments
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Keen analytical skills and financial acumen
- Excellent organizational and detail skills
- Professional, clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
